A celebration of the life of Catherine F. “Kit” Riisness, 98, a long-time Willoughby resident, will be held at 10:30am at the Lyons Chapel at the Nason Center at Breckenridge Village, 36859 Ridge Rd., Willoughby on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Calling hours begin at 10:00am.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Riisness passed away November 13, 2017 in Willoughby. She was born March 15, 1919 in Wallingford, VT to Albert and Margaret Ferguson.
Kit was a librarian and retired in 1980 as Director of the Mentor Public Library. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and needlecrafts.
Survivors include her daughters, Anne (Dan) Willott, Karen (Eric) Dodd, Margaret (Brian) Misch and Jane Carle; grandchildren, Brittany (Mark) Shuster, Ashley (John) Grandetti, Eric (Christina) Misch, Kyle (Ashley Hodge), Daniel Carle and Abbie (Ben) Akucewich; great-grandchildren, Ben, Ethan and Ellie; sister-in-law, Jean Ferguson. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric K. Riisness in 1976; siblings, Elizabeth Ferguson, Margaret Woods, Tryon Ferguson, Josephine Klaas, Finley Ferguson, and Julia Tanner; step-siblings, Alvin Baldwin, Elberta Emch, and Helen Peysha; nephews Philip Woods, Andrew Woods and Finley Klaas.
Kit’s family would like to thank the staff at Nason Center and Fairmount Health Center for their many years of care and kindness.
The Family suggest in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Breckenridge Village Resident Association Christmas Fund or the Caregiver Fund at Breckenridge Village, 36855 Ridge Rd., Willoughby, OH 44094. There will be a private burial service.
